Islam is a monotheistic Abrahamic religion that originated in the 7th century CE in the Arabian Peninsula, with its prophet and central figure being Muhammad. Islam is based on the teachings of the Quran, which Muslims believe to be the word of God as revealed to Muhammad, as well as the Hadith, which are the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad.
Central to the Islamic belief system is the concept of monotheism, known as tawhid. Muslims believe in the oneness of God, known as Allah, and consider Him to be the creator, sustainer, and ultimate authority of the universe.
