Understanding allergies
Allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to substances that are normally harmless, such as pollen, dust, certain foods, or pet dander. These substances, called allergens, trigger a defensive response that can lead to symptoms like sneezing, itching, swelling, rashes, or even more serious reactions like difficulty breathing. Allergies can range from mild to life-threatening and may be seasonal or year-round. Understanding your triggers and how your body responds is key to managing allergies effectively through avoidance, medication, or allergy treatments like immunotherapy.
