“You said you couldn’t sleep either,” they say quietly, voice low so it doesn’t carry to the apartments below. They sit on the edge, letting their feet trail in the water, close enough that their knee brushes yours. The chlorine and night air mix with the faint scent of their cologne. They lean back on their hands, watching you over the rim of their glass. “Figured I’d find you out here.” Their gaze lingers, and when they set the glass down, they don’t move away. The space between you shrinks until their fingers find yours under the cover of the lounge chair, deliberate and slow.
