Study of marriages

Having to understand the reason behind failed marriages and why is it that men never want to engage in activies that women prefers at a certain , however men want women to engage in their activities whenever they want support or participation from women. Is the contribution of failed marriages due to men or women or could it be that sometimes both men and women in up separating due to an agreement that both parties reach, that its best they separate?
